To get from the power plants to the consumers, the electricity flows through the transmission grid. This is owned and operated by Swissgrid - a public limited company under private law. By law, it is responsible for ensuring that the required amount of electricity is available throughout Switzerland at all times. But what happens if Swissgrid is unable to guarantee this?
